PDRM on the Hunt for Man Who Stole Woman’s Handbag Mid-Prayer at Johor Mosque

The police have opened an investigation paper into a theft case reported to have occurred at Masjid Jamek As-Sharif Felda Pasir Raja, where a woman lost RM500 after her handbag was stolen by a man while she was in the middle of performing prayers.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief, Superintendent Yusof Othman, said that his department received a report about the incident at 8:19 pm.

“The police were alerted to a post on the TikTok app uploaded by the account owner ‘AfiqAziz28’ regarding a viral video of a bag theft at the mosque, believed to have occurred around 8 pm."

“The police also received a report from a woman at 8:19 pm concerning the theft,” he said in a statement.

Yusof said that the case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code, and the police are seeking public cooperation from anyone with information to come forward and contact Investigating Officer, Sergeant Wan Mohd Kamal Wan Abas at 013-2624774.

"The offence carries a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, or whipping for repeat offenders," added Yusof.
