Whether it's for good reasons or otherwise, Gen Zs seem to be in the spotlight these days.
Recently, this generation once again garnered attention after several Malaysian employers took to social media to express their frustration over Gen Z employees ghosting their jobs.

In a post on Threads, one employer shared his experience with a troublesome Gen Z staff member. According to him, the employee had gone through all the necessary steps before being offered the job.
However, on the very first day of work, the staff member went to the toilet and seemingly vanished into thin air.

“After the interview, we gave them the offer letter, and the staff came in as expected. Everything was fine in the morning. The seniors all greeted them warmly."
They added, "Then, the new staff went to the toilet and just left without informing anyone. Just like that. First day of work! The new staff member is only 21 years old!”
Not the only instance of Gen Z employees ghosting their workplace
In the comments section, another employer shared a similar experience dealing with problematic new hires.
According to them, two Gen Z employees had just started working for two days before both took medical leave.
When they returned, they handed in their resignation letters, but what shocked the employer was that both letters were handwritten, and the staff disappeared before any follow-up could be done.

“When they came back to the office from medical leave, they just said, ‘Hello, how are you? Here's our resignation letter.’ Before I could even process it, they disappeared again,” the employer said.
Needless to say, the post garnered much attention from other social media users, many of whom condemned the unprofessionalism of the new staff.
“I thought they were love letters because they were handwritten. Might as well sprinkle some talcum powder so they smell nice," said one user.

“Sorry, but what’s the correlation with the weather that made it hard for them to come to work? Is your office located overseas? As a Gen Z myself, I don’t claim these people. They’re so bad at writing essays, I wonder how they did their assignments back in uni.”
Another commented, “What I’ve noticed is that some of them lack professionalism. They only want to follow what they think is right, and expect everyone else to condone it. They call it freedom of thinking. If we don’t follow them, they play the mental health card. That’s how some Gen Zs operate.”
