#GempakSpot: This Sucks: Dengue Cases Have Increased By 77 Per Cent This Year
Boys and girls, beware!
The Health Ministry has just announced that dengue cases in the country have increased by a whopping 77.3 per cent this year!
That's not good news.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad told Malay Mail that 47,352 new cases have been reported up until 26 October, a spike compared to the same period last year.
He said that cumulatively, a total of 108,606 cases with 154 deaths have been recorded so far, which is a 48.1 per cent increase from the 61,254 cases and 104 deaths recorded in the same period last year.
According to Dzulkefly, these are the states with the highest number of recorded cases:
Selangor (60,024)
Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (13,435)
Johor (9,194)
Kelantan (5,024)
Sabah (4,444)
Penang (3,802)
The rest of the states recorded less than 3,000 cases each, Dzulkefly said.
Dzulkefly also revealed that other neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Cambodia, Philippines, Laos, Vietnam, China and Taiwan have been experiencing a spike in dengue cases too.
We don't know about you, but it sure sounds like the mosquitoes are planning for a world invasion.
So, you know what to do, guys! Keep your environment as clean as possible and put on some insect repellant when you're out and about.
