#GempakSpot: What Not To Post When Job Hunting
Posting on social media is our way of life but sometimes we underestimate the power of it. What goes on the internet is public and easily accessible to everyone. So anything you put out there can be used against you and if you’re looking for a job the content listed below will burn you.
#1 Reckless
This is a sure way of getting disqualified for a job and giving yourself a bad reputation. A lot of us like to go out and have fun but when we post about our outings it can get a little out of hand. Pictures or videos of you getting drunk may seem like a funny memory to back to but for employers, it will give them the impression that you can’t be serious or productive.
#2 Abusive
Okay we know, it’s a trend to let out your feelings on your feed and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if an employer were to check, you might just label yourself as not worth the trouble. If your feed is all about you getting into fights with people and ranting on and on then how would you expect them to see you as a positive addition to their team?
#3 Office Politics
Yes, work sometimes can be frustrating and you might feel the urge to express this on your feed. A comment about how difficult your boss or fellow colleagues are is just not going to help. This will make employers think that, do you really enjoy being in an office environment? A bad remark about your boss will for sure get you rejected for future jobs.
#4 Offensive
This is a no brainer but maybe you were joking still, anything discriminatory like racism or sexism is just not cool bruh! This can make you easily come off as a bigot even if you had no ill intentions in mind. Next time, take the time to think if anyone and we mean like the whole world population would be offended and then just don't post it.
#5 Threats
Alright lah cursing out someone no matter who they are will just make you seem like a bitter person. Social media is not the place to be throwing out threats so if you don't like someone deal with it in person. Employers take this kind of behavior as disruptive and not conducive in the workplace so you can wave that job bye-bye.
So there you go, your social media accounts are basically a reflection you in your worse light. We’re sure you would never act like that in an interview but it kinda already begins when you send in your application.
