Adding to their already expansive portfolio, BMW Malaysia has introduced the new granddaddy of their range with a hybrid heart, the BMW 740Le xDrive in M Sport trim. The introduction of this locally assembled super-luxury limousine is BMW confirmation to offer vehicles in every segment in Malaysia.
The fascia of the 740Le is unmistakably BMW a with the massive pair of kidney grilles that are menacing and in-your-face. Flanking those grilles are slim and aggressively styled headlights utilising BMW Laser Light technology with High Beam Assistant. The more oversized air intakes with sculpted trailing edges are part of the M Sport trim, aiding in minimising aerodynamic turbulence along the sides.
Aside from the M Sport Aerodynamic package, the 740Le also comes with the Individual High-gloss Shadow Line, accentuating the limousine’s sleek profile. A new striking rocker panel also underlines the sporty silhouette of the 740Le. The 19-inch M light-alloy wheels with Double-Spoke’s are wrapped with either standard or run-flat tyres, completed with the M Sport brake callipers and the Sky Lounge panorama glass roof.
No luxury sedan is complete without a plush interior, cocooning its occupants in luxury. The 740Le is no different, with an opulent interior that’s just shy of a Rolls Royce. The ‘Fineline’ wood trim in black with High Gloss Metal Effect offers an elegant interior, complemented with the BMW Individual Alcantara Anthracite headliner. Automatic four-zone climate control, electrically operated sunblinds, soft close doors, multi-coloured ambient lighting, wireless charging for mobile phones, and the BMW Display Key are all convenience features available as standard to cater to the needs of every kind of 740Le owner.
Upfront, drivers are treated to the M Sport steering wheels and the latest BMW Live Cockpit Professional infotainment system. Featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch central display, the system can be controlled via touchscreen, BMW’s iDrive rotary dial, BMW’s Gesture Control or voice commands. These displays are further complimented with BMW Heads-Up Display, projecting important vehicle and navigational information onto the windscreen.
Not forgetting the rear passengers, the 740Le comes with the Rear-seat Entertainment Professional package. Two 10-inch touchscreen monitors, complemented with the 16-Speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system, will ensure that passengers in the back seat of this luxury barge can enjoy driving entertainment as well.
A modern luxury sedan wouldn’t be complete without its host of driving aids and safety technology. The 740Le comes as standard with the Driving Assistant Professional and Parking Assistant Plus with surround-view monitoring and Connected Package Professional for seamless on-the-go connectivity.
Coming to the main highlight of this luxury sedan, the 740Le is powered by a 286hp 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine, making a peak torque of 450Nm from just 1,550rpm. The hybrid component of the powertrain is an electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery, producing 113hp and 265Nm of torque. Power is transferred to all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system.
This combination of petrol and electric power gives the 740Le a total power output of 394hp and peak torque of 600Nm of torque. Plenty of grunt to push this two-tonne behemoth from a standstill to 100kph in just 5.1 seconds and to a top speed of 250kph. Befitting a hybrid, the 740Le is remarkably clean and efficient, consuming just 2.8l per 100km with carbon emissions measured at a combined 65g per kilometre.
Open for customisation according to the wishes of the owner, the 740Le comes with four classic colour offerings – Mineral White, Carbon Black Metallic, Donington Grey, and Bernina Grey with Amber effect. These exterior offerings can all be paired with Exclusive Leather Nappa upholstery in either Black or Cognac stitching.
