Current owners of the Proton X70 may breathe a sigh of relief as Proton has confirmed that the N95 cabin filtration system it teased a while back for all new X70s can indeed be retrofitted to existing units for a small price.

The Proton Intelligent Air Purification System (P-IAPS) is essentially a N95-level cabin filter that functions together with the Air Purifier System to improve in-cabin air quality.

As the name suggests, the N95 cabin filter is capable of removing 95 per cent of particles larger than 0.3 microns and also eliminate 98 per cent of PM2.5 dust particulates. It’s therefore an effective barrier against smoke particulates, dust, bacteria and other pollutants in the air. The filter functions in both fresh and recirculation modes for the air-conditioning system.

Prior to this, all X70s came with the Air Purifier System that’s a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. These filters eliminate 99.97 per cent of particles larger than 0.3 microns while its activated carbon removes odours, formaldehyde and adsorbs as well as purifies smoke particulates. Lastly, there’s the ionizer that discharges negative ions to cleanse the air. The Air Purifier System remains and works hand-in-hand with the P-IAPS.

“Proton is constantly looking at ways to improve our offerings. The introduction of the N95 Cabin Filter is particularly relevant in today’s global environment and by improving the quality of air in the cabin, we hope to deliver a comfortable contaminant-free experience to our customers. For now, P-IAPS will only be offered on the Proton X70 but our designers and engineers are working to fit the N95 cabin filter in our other models too,” said Dr. Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton.

All new units of the locally-assembled (2020) X70 will be fitted with the N95 cabin filter moving forward. However, before existing owners pass out from holding their breath, Proton has confirmed that upgrade their dust and pollen filter to the N95 cabin filter for RM79; excluding labour charges.

Additionally, they’ll be running a service campaign from 18 May - 18 August 2020 for existing X70 owners to upgrade the cabin filter at a further 15 per cent discount.

It’s a no-brainer upgrade and you can make an appointment beginning tomorrow by contacting your regular Proton service centre.
