Since the cat’s out of the Bezza bag with the brochure and pricing leaks yesterday, Perodua has made it official by confirming that order books are open for the 2020 Perodua Bezza facelift and even threw in a quick teaser video starring Malaysian footballer Safee Sali.
The quick clip shows us the new face with a sharper bumper, revised headlight shape and new grille. Flip over to the rear and the most noticeable change is the chrome strip bridging the taillights that is now a combo of chrome and gloss black.
Inside, the dashboard’s basic layout is untouched but to refresh the look Perodua gave it some new trim. A double-DIN touchscreen unit is pictured and as the brochures have made clear, that’s the Bezza AV.
Now onto the least surprising additions; the introduction of Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0 suite of active safety systems. It was first introduced in the Perodua Myvi before the upgraded 2.0 system made its way into the Aruz, and subsequently the Axia.
As always, the suite comprises Pedestrian Detection (up to 50 kph), Pre-Collision Warning (up to 100 kph), Pre-Collision Braking (up to 80 kph), Front Departure Alert and Pedal Misoperation Control.
Completing the safety kit is ABS/EBD as a standard feature across the range. Stability Control is available on the 1.3-litre models only. The 1.0-litre models are still there with a manual and auto option. LED-headlights is standard across the range. Keyless entry makes it to the 1.3-litre models only.
You’ll find 14-inch wheels on the 1.0-litre cars and larger 15-inch units for the larger engines. Although ASA 2.0 is the highlight for the AV trim, it also packs a reverse camera and power-retractable side-view mirrors.
To recap the powertrain specs, nothing’s changed. So expect the inline-three 1.0-litre to make 67hp and 91Nm of torque while the 1.3-litre four-banger punches a little harder with 94hp and 121Nm of torque.
Pricing for the Bezza starts at RM34,580 for the 1.-litre G Manual while the Auto will set you back RM36,580. You can only have the 1.3-litre trim with an auto, as the manual has been binned, and that starts at RM43,980 for the X and climbs to RM49,980 for the AV.
