If you’re a kind soul and have some time to kill over the weekends, GoCar is looking for volunteer drivers under its GoVax programme to shuttle the elderly and persons with disabilities (PWD) to their Covid-19 vaccination appointments in the Petaling district.

The call to action comes as the government has increased its vaccination efforts as well as the growing demand for the free GoVax shuttle services.

Since the programme commenced on 25 May 2021, the GoVax Heroes have provided free rides to and from vaccination centres for well over 300 senior citizens and PWDs. Thus far, the volunteer drivers have been from GoCar’s own employee pool.

Nonetheless, with the increase in demand, a little helping hand from external parties would be welcomed.

The CSR programme itself is a collaborative effort between GoCar and Kampung Tunku state assemblyperson YB Lim Yi Wei.

Currently, the GoVax shuttle service covers the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, Hospital Shah Alam, Klinik Rakan Medik Petaling Jaya, University Malaysia Medical Centre (UMMC) and Ideal Convention Centre Shah Alam (IDCC). It’s open to all senior citizens aged 60 years and above and persons with disabilities (PWDs) heading for vaccinations in the Petaling district.

Bookings must be made at least three days in advance. Passengers with mobility challenges will need to be accompanied by an experienced caregiver. Those interested in booking a free Govax shuttle can click here to enter your details.

If you’d like to volunteer to be a driver for GoVax, you have to be between the ages of 18 and 50 with a valid Malaysian driver’s license. Click here to drop your details to volunteer. Seeing that this is a CSR project, there will be no payment, but drivers will receive a small token of RM30 worth of GoPocket points per day.

Given that most of us have our day jobs during the week, the GoVax drivers will be assigned to vaccinations scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays so that their work and weekday routines will not be affected. Vehicles will be provided by GoCar with petrol and parking fees being covered as well.

The GoVax service will end on 31 August 2021. You can contact their 24/7 hotline at 1-300-30-2633 or via the GoCar mobile app to make a booking.
