The Takata airbag inflator seems like a never-ending nightmare for the carmakers that fell victim to Takata’s negligence. Honda has been hit the hardest and Honda Malaysia has just announced another recall for 23,476 units that have already had their inflators replaced but may need it swapped out once again.

Models that fall under this recall are the Accord, City, Civic, CR-V, Insight, Jazz and Stream. Honda Malaysia stresses that this is a preventive measure as it involves the replacement of inflators installed in vehicles previously subject to recall.

You can refer to the two tables to see if your car falls under the recall. The first is for the driver’s airbag inflator while the second is for the front passenger’s airbag inflator.

As always, if you see your Honda is in the table you should make an appointment and have it replaced as soon as possible. Honda Malaysia will cover the cost of all charges applicable to the replacement.

Customers can expect a notification from Honda Malaysia. Any of the 95 authorised Honda service dealers nationwide are capable of handling the inspection and replacement if necessary.

As of 1 October 2019, more than 249,000 units of affected models have had the inflators replaced; a 91 per cent completion rate, while the total number of Takata driver and front passenger inflator replacement completion clocks in at more than 537,000 units; or an 89 per cent completion rate.

You can check to see if your Honda model is part of the recall via the dedicated website by Honda Malaysia. Just enter your VIN number to see if an inspection is necessary. If you’re not web savvy, you can call the toll-free number at 1-800-88-2020. The carmaker reiterates that all current models on sale are not affected by the recall.

Honda Malaysia also appeals to all customers with a Honda that’s part of the recall to have it inspected immediately at any of the authorised centres.
