A notice shared by Pos Malaysia on its official Facebook page announced that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has suspended all renewal of road tax (Lesen Kenderaan Motor, LKM) for private vehicles at Pos Malaysia outlets nationwide. The suspension begins today and will end on 31 March 2021.

While the renewal of road tax for private vehicles is shelved temporarily, other JPJ related services such as the renewing of driving licenses and vehicle insurance will continue as per the norm.

While it might be an inconvenience for motorists, the transport ministry has given the green light for vehicles to be operated without a valid road tax during MCO 2.0 so long as said vehicle has a valid insurance policy.

The move is in accordance with JPJ’s scaling down of counter services announced from 1 February to 31 March 2021.

So, don’t be surprised, disappointed or angry if you head over to a Pos Malaysia outlet and find out that you can’t renew your road tax. It’s perfectly fine as long as you have a valid insurance policy. Don't fret about having to perform a Puspakom inspection if your road tax has exceeded a year since its expiry date as well. The period has now been extended to three years.
