The Mini Convertible is such a stylish little car that is seemingly made for people who prefers an unhurried drive through scenic roads — regardless of top-up or down. As if this convertible isn’t swanky enough, MINI Malaysia has introduced the Sidewalk Edition to the range as a celebration to the first generation Mini Convertible Sidewalk Edition that debut in 2007. No reason was given for the celebration although no one needs one to celebrate.

As with all special edition vehicles, this generation’s Mini Convertible Sidewalk Edition is limited to only 20 units, each priced just shy of RM300,000. Although this kind of money can nab you a nice hot hatch, or even another convertible, none will get you a car painted with the Deep Laguna metallic colour.

From the top, the Convertible features the Mini Yours Soft-top Sidewalk with the ‘Sidewalk’ pattern finished in Titanium Grey. The roof can be opened even when the car is moving at 30kph. Bonnet stripes decorated with geometric pattern lays on individualism to this limited edition car. The 17-inch light-alloy Scissor Spoke two-tone wheels, exclusive to the model, finishes the exterior of the convertible.

Going off the sidewalk and into the interior, you’ll notice the seats are wrapped in Mini Yours Leather Lounge Sidewalk in anthracite. Contrasting seams of Energetic Yellow and Petrol feature on the leather seats, as with the doormats. Petrol, the colour and not the flammable liquid because that’d be bad, also finish the cockpit and door trims. The Sidewalk logotype and Petrol seams are subtly displayed on the steering wheel.

The Mini Convertible Sidewalk is wired with a, uh, Wired Package that offers an 8.8-inch Mini Visual Boost with Navigation System. You can engage with the system via the touchscreen, Mini controller or Voice Control. A 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is hooked up to the media unit.

This convertible comes with a 4G SIM technology built-in, allowing the use of the Intelligent Emergency Call. This system can detect vehicle location and accident severity. Also included are the Mini Online and Mini TeleServices.

Although this Mini Convertible may not look hot to some, it does pack heat under the bonnet. The Cooper S twin-turbo engine generates 192hp and 280Nm. Paired with a seven-speed Steptronic automatic, this car hits the 0-100kph time in 7.1 seconds. While it’ll hit speeds of up to 230kph, this car consumes 5.7 litres per 100km.

The Mini Convertible Sidewalk Edition is priced RM285,899.47 in this sale-tax exempted time. If this was any other year, you would have needed RM295,888.00 to own one. Buying now will save you close to RM9,988.53, which would be the smartest thing to do, no?
