The headline says it all, really. Porsche Malaysia will be broadcasting the 911 Speedster’s unveiling on its social media platforms at 8pm on June 2nd. This, of course, is entirely out of whack with what they would normally do, which is privately invite new and potential customers to feel the car. The new normal has opened the floor to everyone and that's a good thing.

For a car like this, you know it is going to be produced in limited numbers. In total there will only be 1,948 units made for the world, and the 911 Speedster can be optioned with the Heritage Design Package. This package is designed by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, and it is said to take the driver back to the roots of the Porsche brand. It also reminds of the pioneering days of motorsport; a time before sports cars were gentrified and driven by people who actually know how to drive.

The 911 Speedster draws power from a four-litre naturally aspirated flat-six that produces 510hp at 9,000rpm, a place where the gods of speed reside. A proper six-speed GT manual transmission pairs with the engine to smash the 0-100kph in 4.0 seconds. And up to a top speed of 310kph.

The launch of the 911 Speedster on social media platforms is one of the initiatives taken by Sime Darby Auto Performance to reduce contact between people. So expect more digital touchpoints and contactless processes when you walk into their showroom the next time.

In case you’re wondering, the limited run of 1,948 corresponds with the year that the 356 ‘No. 1’ Roadster was made. Price for the 911 Speedster should be announced during the launch on Facebook, Instagram and dealer website channels, so get your kidneys ready. Having that said, you may not be able to buy one even if you can afford one. Perhaps you need more luck than money, yes?
