UMW Toyota Motor announced today that the company will be conducting a Special Service Campaign (read: recall) to replace the fuel pump on specific units of Toyota and Lexus models.

Symptoms of the fuel pump failure include warning lights and messages displayed on the instrument panel. You may also experience hesitation from the engine. Your vehicle may not be able to start or could stall even when driving at high speeds. We cannot stress enough how dangerous this is.

UMW Toyota has stated, based on information from Toyota Motor Corporation, that there are 12,000 Toyota and 1,500 Lexus vehicles — manufactured between 2013 to 2019 and distributed by UMWT — are involved in this campaign. Only vehicles listed below are affected:

Toyota
Alphard
Camry
Corolla
Innova
Fortuner

Lexus
GS300
GS350
IS300
LC500/500H
LS460
LS500/500H
LS600H
NX200T/300H
RC350/300H
RX350/450H
RX350/450

UMWT will be getting in touch with owners of the affected vehicles soon. Else, you can always contact your Toyota Service Centre or call Toyota Freephone at 1800-88-69682.

In the meantime, drive slower and be aware of your car’s behaviour. Scary.
