There’s really nothing much to say about the recently relaunched Peugeot 3008 and 5008 except that the French SUVs are now locally-assembled so you get more value for your money with some extra kit tacked on, especially in the safety department.

The duo will be put together at Naza Automotive Manufacturing in Gurun, Kedah; that’ll also serve as the Southeast Asian hub for the marque.

Cosmetically you do get new roof rails, a new panoramic sunroof, 18-inch wheels and chrome side-view mirrors though we would’ve skipped the chrome on the last one. And yes, all these enhancements apply to both models.

You’ve got to hand it to the French, they make some sweet interiors. Here, you get Claudia leather seats with either Graphite or Goa stitching holding it all together. Your choice of variant determines the stitching. It’s proper premium inside with leather and fabric adorning most touch points. Completing the premium ambience, there’s the blue mood lighting.

Drivers will appreciate the Peugeot i-Cockpit digital instrument cluster that’s been updated with a new Driving Assistance display with Personal modes and the Onyx layout. Navigation has also been embedded into the 8.0-inch multifunction colour touchscreen. For convenience, there’s a handsfree powered tailgate that opens with a kick function below the rear bumper.

Safety has been really turned up a notch with the driver assistance features. This comprises Driver Attention Alert, Speed Limit Recognition and Recommendation, 180-degree reverse camera with the useful stitching function and an upgraded Blind Spot Information System. Active Lane Departure Warning is also new in the mix.

If you guessed that nothing’s changed under the hood, you’d be spot on. The familiar inline-four 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbo with direct injection and VVT makes the same 165hp and 240Nm of torque with a six-speed automatic sending it all to the front wheels.

Colour options for both models are Nera Black, Pearl White, Amazonite Grey and Aster Grey. Unique to the 3008 is Metallic Copper while the 5008 also gets its own exclusive shade in Emerald Crystal.

Pricing for the 3008 starts at RM150,888 for the base Active trim and climbs to RM163,888 for the Allure trim. As for the 5008, you’ll need RM166,888 for the Active variant and RM179,888 for the Allure. As always, there’s a five-year warranty, three years of free maintenance and access to the Skylounge in Subang SkyPark for those that fly out of there.
