A new year is already upon us, and this also means…new K-dramas! In 2023 we enjoyed (or are still enjoying) My Demon, The Good Bad Mother, Doona!, Strong Girl Nam Soon, Doctor Cha and more so we can’t wait to see what K-drama land brings us in 2024!

Marry My Husband (1 January)

This drama is already making headlines because of Park Min Young’s striking weight loss to 37kg for the role. Based on a webtoon, Kang Ji Won’s married life is anything but blissful due to her husband’s selfishness and his demanding mother. Ji Won receives a devastating terminal cancer diagnosis and learns that her husband is cheating on her with her close friend. One day, she finds herself in the past 10 years ago when her co-worker also starts to fall for her.

Starring: Park Min Young, Na In Woo, Lee Yi Kyung

Airing on: tVN, Prime Video

Love Song for Illusion

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, this fantasy sageuk tells the tale of a crown prince with two opposite personalities who works at a boutique while hiding his real identity. A fierce obsession and romantic relationship unfolds when he falls for a woman with royal blood who becomes an assassin.

Starring: Park Ji Hoon, Hong Ye Ji, Hwang Hee, Ji Woo

Airing on: KBS

Gyeongseong Creature Part 2 (January 5)

We’ve been so busy with the year-end festivities that we’ve still only completed episode 1 of part 1, but for those of you who have, you can look forward to the remaining 3 episodes. In the Spring of 1945 in Gyeongseong (old name for Seoul), during Japanese rule over Korea, a pawn shop owner and a bounty hunter confront a strange creature born of greed, and battle against it for survival. More of the visually stunning couple? Yes, please!

Starring: Park Seo Joon, Han So Hee

Airing on: Netflix

Captivating the King (also known as Charmed Deceit) (26 January)

This sageuk revolves around a reluctant king and a baduk genius who finds himself torn between love and power. A baduk player who fell in love with him in the past is sent to spy on him and discovers that he is the very same man she had feelings for. Don’t shoot us but honestly, we aren’t fans of Shin Se Kyung’s acting. That being said, we’ll watch anything with Jo Jung Suk in it.

Starring: Jo Jung Suk, Shin Se Kyung, Park Ye Young, Lee Shin Young

Airing on: tvN

Flex X Cop (26 January)

Ahn Bo Hyun and Park Ji Hyun’s characters didn’t end up together in Yumi’s Cells but maybe they will this time? The former takes on the character of Jin Yi Soo, a third-generation chaebol who uses his connections to get the job done in the police force rather than working hard. His team leader (played by Park Ji Hyun) is his extreme opposite, preferring to solve cases by the book and is determined to whip him into shape.

P.S.: The directly translated title of Chaebol x Detective makes much more sense in Korean.

Starring: Ahn Bo Hyun, Park Ji Hyun

Airing on: SBS TV

Doctor Slump (27 January)

We always love a good romantic comedy and Park Shin Hye and Park Hyun Sik who first worked on The Heirs together are set to be an amazing duo! Two successful doctors who hate each other struggle to pull themselves out of a slump but start to find solace in each other’s arms. Fun fact: Oh Hyun Jong, who directed Weightlifting Fairy Kim Book Joo takes the reins for this drama, while the script is penned by Baek Sun Woo of What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. Also, this will be Park Shin Hye’s first work since giving birth!

Starring: Park Hyung Sik, Park Shin Hye, Yoon Park, Kong Seong Ha

Airing on: JTBC, Netflix
