Coldplay Concert: Scalpers Resell RM598 Tickets For RM1,500 & We Hate Them
When British rock band Coldplay announced that they would finally be heading to Malaysian shores for their first-ever concert here, local fans naturally lost their minds. The band of four will be performing live on 22 November 2023 for ‘Coldplay: Music Of The Spheres World Tour’ at the Bukit Jalil Stadium. It was announced that CIMB Bank cardholders would be able to join in on an exclusive presale on 16 May while sales would be open to the public from 17 May, 10am onwards.

Naturally, chaos reigned online today (16 May) for hopeful concertgoers. This morning, numerous buyers reported that the server had crashed.

Some buyers queued in vain:
Expect what unexpected. Dah habis queue nak masuk website crash I'm dead ? #COLDPLAYinKL pic.twitter.com/lD33ZE013j— 0xartic (@0xartic) May 16, 2023
Others managed to get their tickets but waited in queue for three and a half hours:
WAITED 3.5HRS IN QUEUE BUT I GOT EM. SEE YOU GUYS IN NOV. #COLDPLAYinKL pic.twitter.com/H6cvePKA4C— Azarif Abdul Aziz (@azazarif) May 16, 2023
CIMB cardholders were also upset that non-cardholders also managed to obtain tickets. One said that they had failed to get tickets and that the card numbers should be inserted prior to the official queue.
Failed to get the tickets miserably. You guys failed the CIMB Card holders big time @GoLiveAsia! The card no. should be inserted PRIOR to the official queue - that way only genuine card holders boleh masuk queue.Ni tak. Ramai yang nak test pun queue sekali ☠️#COLDPLAYinKL pic.twitter.com/Ga7ywqnlxc— Brie (@xbrieeejames) May 16, 2023
Another also said that it seemed to be a free-for-all as everyone could access the pre-sale:
i don't understand how it's CIMB presale when i didn't get asked my card details, literally everyone and anyone is queueing whether malaysian, non malaysian, cimb or non cimb ...??#COLDPLAYinKL— kei ψ | clément turpin enjoyer ? (@andrewsboxers) May 16, 2023
Another issue was that tickets were being sold at outrageous prices by scalpers. CAT6 tickets which were originally priced at RM398 were being sold for almost double the price.
One of the reasons why ya’ll not able to get through the system: SCALPERS!Tabahlah korang semua. #COLDPLAYinKL #ColdplayKualaLumpur pic.twitter.com/rR9r1HTMqZ— bbsingsong? (@bbsingsong) May 16, 2023
Checks on Carousell and Twitter also showed that other scalpers were hiking up the prices:
The concert organiser Live Nation has already warned against buying non-authorised tickets saying that they will not be refunded if the tickets are not valid:
#ColdplayMY #Coldplay #MOTSWT #LNMY #CIMBBank-----------------------------------!! We would like to caution members of the public against purchasing tickets from unauthorised sellers or 3rd party websites such as Viagogo, Carousel, or other similar platforms.— Live Nation Malaysia (@livenationmy) May 11, 2023
Another warned against buying tickets from scalpers to avoid disappointment at the door.
Why u should NOT buy tickets from scalpers. 90% of them are fake. They resell multiple times. This means, when they scan d tickets at the door, it says tix already used. And when u try to verify tix is yours, details on purchase says otherwise. Lastly, u cant enter #COLDPLAYinKL— Melakaboy (@melakaboy) May 16, 2023
Good luck to everyone who is trying tomorrow!
