It’s been quite a whirlwind journey for Johnny Depp ever since the verdict of his libel case against a British tabloid came out.

Following his forced exit from the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise, actor Mads Mikkelsen has been named as his successor.

Mikkelsen is known for his roles in ‘Hannibal’, ‘Doctor Strange’, ‘Casino Royale’, and ‘Star Wars’.

Depp To Mikkelsen

Well he definitely looks the part...
The Danish actor is finally speaking up for the first time ever since landing the role as Gellert Grindelwald.

According to Entertainment Weekly (EW), Mikkelsen says his take on the titular antagonist will be different from Depp’s portrayal but they’re currently figuring out a bridge between what Johnny did and what he’s going to do.

“At the same time, I also have to make it my own. But also we have to find a few links [to the previous version of the character] and some bridges so it doesn't completely detach from what he's already masterfully achieved,” he told EW.

Depp as Grindelwald.
When pressed on how he reacted when receiveing the role, he says it’s a mix of good and sad feelings.

"Job wise, it's obviously super interesting and nice," Mikkelsen said.

"It's also a shocker that it came after what happened, which is just super sad. I wish both of them the best. These are sad circumstances. I hope both of them will be back in the saddle again really soon."

Well, we can envision Mikkelsen as an antagonist but let’s hope he’ll live up to Grindelwald’s character.

‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ is currently in production and is slated to premiere on 14 July 2022.
