Whether it’s BLACKPINK in your area or the BTS Army filling up your timeline, we can all agree that many Malaysians have undying love for their K-pop idols.

Many devote their time to create stan accounts, fan cams, stocking up memorabilia, and hyping their idols’ new music or show.

So it’s no surprise when Malaysia made it to the Top 10 list with the most tweets about K-pop.

10 times more than in 2019

According to Twitter, K-pop fans created a new record for tweeting 6.7 billion tweets in 2020 alone, shattering its previous record of 600 million in 2019.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, perhaps fans had nothing better to do than stay and home and tweet about their idols.

Indonesia, Thailand, and South Korea came up top while Malaysia ranked at seventh place.

Other findings include ‘Top 10 most-mentioned K-pop songs’, ‘Top 10 most-mentioned K-pop artists’ and ‘Top 10 fastest-rising K-pop artists in the world’.

BTS Army sealed their presence on Twitter after the K-pop group dominated the first two charts.

With the pandemic still going on this year, we can expect the numbers to multiple even more by the end of the year.
