This Poor Guy Thought He Was Dating The Real Katy Perry For SIX Years!
Catfish used to be a word to describe a type of fish that has barbels akin to a cat’s whiskers. Fast forward to the 2000s, that term is no longer used to describe the marine life, but instead used to describe the vulnerable souls who have been tricked by an online persona that they initially believed to be the person they said to be.
As years go by, social media sites popped up as fast as mushroom after a rainstorm. Cases of people getting catfished have become prevalent and stories of people getting heartbroken after finding out they’ve been dating an online imposter are getting common. A TV show to highlight this issue was eventually created. The show was ironically named Catfish. People grew fond of the show because a lot of them could identify with the victims in the show.
After four successful seasons, Nev and Max would never in their wildest dream be ready for what was coming from Spencer Morrill’s case. He had admitted to the pair that he was in love and dating mega popstar Katy Perry for the past six years. Yes, you read that right. Nev and Max were initially baffled, as they thought Morrill was just pulling their leg but it turned out that he was dead serious about it. The man from Tennessee claimed to have met Perry online through a dating app and both of them had an “instant connection.”
Morrill also gushed about the Roar singer and told them: "She's awesome. Katy's funnier than I am, she's smarter than I am. I don't know how many people give her credit for that, but she's very intelligent. Katy's full of life, huge heart."

Their six-year relationship suddenly went sour for the past few weeks after she apparently distanced herself from him and went as far as deleting him on the app. She told a very gullible Morrill that she had sent him an e-mail to explain everything but unfortunately, he failed to receive any e-mail from her as of yet.Catfish asked Morrill whether he thought that Perry might be dating anyone at the moment and he told them it was highly possible she was seeing "that elf from The Lord of The Rings" – Orlando Bloom. Well, at least he's quite aware of the latest news and gossip. And just when you thought things couldn’t be worse, Spencer went on and made an engagement ring for her which he claimed cost him 25% of his savings.

Morrill and Perry have never met with each other, and have only spoke on the phone ONCE throughout their ‘relationship’. Catfish and Morrill ended up travelling all the way to Gloucester, England to meet the ‘popstar’. Just as you expected, it turns out that ‘Katy Perry’ had indeed been an imposter. She was actually a Canadian woman called Harriett. After their awkward and heart-breaking encounter, the woman apologized.
"I just got to a point to where I couldn’t imagine like not talking to you," she explained. "I’ve been through some tough times throughout the time we were talking the past six years. Like my dad died two years ago... I’m like genuinely sorry. I can’t change what I did, but I understand that it was really wrong."
Well, the real Katy Perry caught wind of the news and felt genuinely sorry for Morrill. In an interview with SiriusXM, she told them:
"You know, like, my heart goes out to him actually because anybody that's been fooled like that or just, you know, people have dreams, and people live in different parts of world where not everything is always so accessible... I felt bad for him, and so I didn't really like to indulge in that, because my heart would die."
