That groan that subconciously escaped your mouth is truly justified, however, as several modern day reboots of classic 1980s films that defined our childhood have been absolute garbage.
The 2014 'RoboCop' movie was a hot mess (although a reboot of the reboot is reportedly in the works), the 2010 'Karate Kid' reboot was kinda lame and the 2016 all-female 'Ghostbusters' reboot was just meh at best.
With movie studios increasingly looking to the past and giving our favourite classic movies the reboot treatment (and subsequently ruining them, ugh!), we're just praying that they leave our childhood films alone, or at least, do a better job at rebooting them.
Thankfully, Sony Pictures heard our pleas and they are attempting to regain our trust by announcing a new 'Ghostbusters' movie that will hopefully make OG fans happy again!
According to entertainment website Entertainment Weekly, the movie studio is currently working on a sequel of the original 'Ghostbusters' movies set in the 1980s.
While details remain scarce, here's what we are able to find out about the project at the moment:
#1 The new director has ties to the director of the first film
Really close ties, in fact. Jason Reitman, who's directed hits such as 'Juno' and 'Up In The Air', will be directing the new 'Ghostbusters' movie. If the name Reitman sounds familiar to you, it's because the director of the 1984 film was Ivan Reitman.
In case you can't put two and two together, Jason is Ivan's son. There's no better mentor to look up to, if you ask us. Who knows, maybe the Reitman senior would share with Reitman junior some pearls of wisdom on how to make a kickass movie during a family dinner.
#2 It will have nothing to do with the 2016 reboot
In other words, the story from the all-female reboot of the film will be completely ignored. According to Jason Reitman, the new 'Ghostbusters' film will be set decades after the world that was saved by Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore and Peter Venkman.
The new film, according to Jason, is "the next chapter in the original franchise". The film will reportedly picked up where 'Ghostbusters II', released in 1989, left off, but set in the present day. You can't get anymore OG than that.
#3 The movie is coming sooner than expected
Despite only making an official annoucenment on Wednesday, Jason has reportedly been secretly working on the movie "for months", according to The Hollywood Reporter. During those months, Jason very discreetly co-wrote a script with Gil Kenan, the director of the animated movie 'Monster House'.The movie will reportedly go into production this summer, and is eyeing a summer 2020 release. That's just one year away, guys, so it's perfectly fine for you to start freaking out!
Bonus fun fact: the code name the movie has been operating under up until now was 'Rust City'. They totally should've used 'Marshmallow Man', right?
#4 The original cast members could return
Keyword: could. Although Jason has been keeping a tight lip about the screenplay or who's gonna star in his version of the movie, he is, however, open to the idea of bringing Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson back. Harold Ramis, who played Egon, passed away in 2014.But chances of the three remaining actors playing a big part in the new movie seem pretty slim, as Jason revealed that they have "a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.” According to this entertainment portal, Jason is looking to cast two male and two female teenagers for the lead roles.
Jason, if you're reading this, our wishes are simple: 1) Slimer must be in it, 2) cast Gal Gadot as Janine Melnitz and 3) please give the original cast a cameo they deserve, unlike Bill Murray's totally disrespectful cameo in the 2016 film.

#5 One important OG cast member will indeed be returning
If you've seen the teaser clip uploaded just yesterday (Wednesday), you'll know that the OG Ecto-1 WILL (PROBABLY) BE IN THE MOVIE!
The teaser shows the iconic white ambulance (hearse?) covered with a sheet of cloth in an isolated barn somewhere, and the flashes of light in the barn seem to indicate that someone is working very hard to bring the original 'Ghostbusters' vehicle back to life.
We hope who's fixing the Ecto-1 will also work on that iconic siren. If not, we riot!
