The Malaysian entertainment industry has lost a talent.

Renowned local filmmaker Khalid Mamat has passed away. He was 58.

Died of a heart attack


According to Bernama, Mamat passed away at the Slim River Hospital at 12.30am on Sunday (24 October).

Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) secretary-general Hafiz Nafiah confirmed the news.

“He collapsed at the Sarang Art Hub cafe in Tanjung Malim before being taken to the Slim River Hospital, where he was confirmed dead,” he told Bernama.

The news agency reported that Khalid died of a heart attack.

The Ipoh-born Mamat is survived by his wife Hasmah Hassan, his three sons -- Mohd Khalid Amen Mohamad, Mohd Khalid Adam Mohamad and Mohd Khalid Zaffa Mohamad -- and two daughters, Sara Mohamad and Nurhassanah Mohamad.

Mamat -- the younger brother of famous Malaysian cartoonist Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid, or better known as Lat -- was well-known in the local entertainment industry, as he directed some of Malaysia's highest grossing films such as 'Hantu Kak Limah', 'Zombi Kampung Pisang’, ‘Rock’ and ‘18 Puasa di Kampong Pisang’.

Rest in peace, Mamat Khalid. The local entertainment industry lost a great one today.
