After having a good run in the world of wrestlers and spandex tights, Johnson finally ventured into the cinematic world and made his debut via the 2001 film ‘The Mummy Returns’, playing the iconic role of the Scorpion King.
The role helped catapulted the ‘Jumanji’ star’s career into elite status and also helped get him a spin-off film the following year.
The Scorpion King will be resurrected
And now, he’s about to make a comeback, but not on the scorching hot deserts of Egypt; instead, he will be sitting on a comfortable chair behind the big cameras.
According to Entertainment Weekly, there will be a reboot of ‘The Scorpion King’ with The Rock acting as a producer via his company Seven Bucks Productions in partnership with Universal Studios.
"The Scorpion King was my very first role ever on the silver screen and I'm honored and excited to reimagine and deliver this cool mythology to a whole new generation," the actor said in a statement.
"I wouldn't have had the career I'm lucky enough to have had it not been for 'The Scorpion King' and I'm thrilled that we at Seven Bucks Productions can help create those same opportunities for other hard-working actors today.
"I believe Jonathan Herman will put in the hard work to deliver a fantastic script for our global audience."
Interestingly, the reboot will also have a more contemporary tone set in more recent times.
No word yet and who will be casted for the titular role or when will the movie debut.
Fans may be disappointed to find out ‘The Rock’ will no longer play the Scorpion King but who knows, maybe he’ll make a cameo or appearance as a surprise?
