We are pretty sure you know the likes of Yuna and Zee Avi; talented local musicians who are making a name for themselves abroad.

Now, we can add another name to the list.

Making the country proud

You go, girl!
A Sarawak-born musician has made the country proud by being nominated in this year’s Buenos Aires Music Video Festival, Bernama reported.

That's not all; Alena Murang was nominated in not one, but two categories: Best International Video and Best Styling.

The nominations were for her music video "Midang Midang".

Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told Bernama that Alena's nominations proved to be a platform to highlight the Sarawakian culture to the international stage.

“Alena was right when she said that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the music video clip which showed Kelabit Highlands is still making its way through the prestigious festival and on global stage.

“With over 29,000 views on YouTube, we hope Alena’s music video will continue to become the window for the rest of the world to see how much Sarawak’s tourism has got to offer and to become one of the must-visit destinations once the COVID-19 situation has dramatically improved,” he said in a statement as quoted by the news agency.

Alena's music video will be going up against the likes of international superstar Madonna in the Best International Video category, so that is a great testament to Alena's awesomeness, kan?

Good luck, Alena! The whole of Malaysia is rooting for you.
