ENCORE MELAKA recently announced that the much anticipated ENCORE MELAKA performance will reopen on 7 July 2024 after a more than 4-year hiatus.
The state-of-the-art theatre was launched back in 2018 but was forced to halt operations in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A work of art

The theatre boasts a 360° rotating auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,800, a 240m-long stage, over 1,000 water sprinklers at its water & mist stage, and six lifting platforms that ascend to 6 meters, facilitating dynamic and seamless scene transitions.
Additionally, the outer structure of the theatre is made out of individual pieces of Aluminum Composite Panels, forming a pristine crisp white block by the coast. This white facade perfectly blends in with the clouds and the sea on a good day. There are also a number of eye-catching parabolic-curved LED panels which can be utilised to project any type of graphic to form a pleasant break between the calming white panels.
There are four different stages that the rotating auditorium will rotate to depending on the scene. Having experienced it ourselves, we couldn’t help but marvel at the combination of technology and performance art, which worked hand in hand to present a magical performance.
Datuk Wira Boo Kuang Loon, Founder of ENCORE MELAKA, said: “The idea of building this grand theatre started with a letter and the Belt & Road initiative.”
Meanwhile, he shared that the idea of the rotating seating area was inspired by David Copperfield’s iconic Vanishing the Statue of Liberty trick, where he essentially moved the platform everyone was on to present another view to them.
“We are excited about the official opening of the new season, and we hope to collaborate with more people to promote the art and cultural development of ENCORE MELAKA,” added Boo Kuang Loon.

Magic in person

The forthcoming season promises an enthralling array of performances that combine history and modernity, technology and art, into a magnificent showcase of lights and sound.
The immersive performance not only features the iconic scenes from the previous season but also incorporates new innovative elements that better illustrate the rich and touching stories of Melaka.
Additionally, to promote the local culture, the ENCORE MELAKA team has specially added elements that reflect the historical and cultural heritage of Melaka, allowing the audience to better understand the rich historical background of the city while enjoying the artistic performance.
This 70-minute feast uses creative technology to narrate the 700-year history and changes of Melaka, how it embraces ethnic diversity, and impacts the lives of its people through top-notch production equipped with the latest stage technology, including brand-new lighting and audio and sound systems.
As for the cast, new faces join the outstanding talents from the previous season, and the team is completely made out of local talents.
