Hayao Miyazaki is one passionate man. He has a clear mindset of what he wants, how he’ll get it done, and also has an outstanding vision that’s unmatched. Just take a look at his long list of movies to his repertoire that’ll put Pixar to shame such as My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and the hugely successful Spirited Away. His distinctive style separates him from the rest of the pack.

Miyazaki recently made a big announcement during a NHK television special that’ll make you weep tears of happiness. Everyone’s favourite anime director has expressed his interest to come out of retirement to turn his 20-year pet project into a full-length animated feature. The new film titled Boro the Caterpillar (Kemushi no Boro) will revolve around a caterpillar that’s so small “it may be easily squished between your fingers.” The film was initially a CG short for the Ghibli Museum, but Miyazaki was unhappy with the end product and has proposed expanding it into a feature. (See, how passionate he is?!)

According to Japanese director, the movie will take up to five years to make, which means that the movie might be out in 2020, just in time for the Tokyo Olympics. Imagine the hype if it does come out during that period especially after Japan released their super-creative promo (that’ll probably made other nations jealous) for the 2020 Olympics.

Miyazaki announced his retirement back in 2013 and it actually wasn’t his first. Back in 1998, he declared that Princess Mononoke was his last film and he’ll be retiring for good. Well thank God he didn’t go on with his retirement plan, or else it would be such a shame not to share your talent with the whole world, Mr. Miyazaki. Here’s to coming out of retirement and making more cool movies from your wildly imaginative mind!
