Taylor Swift Is Back On Spotify After A Three-Year Boycott
If you’re an avid Spotify user, you would have noticed that you can’t listen to any Taylor Swift song because the singer pulled all her albums from the music streaming service in 2014.
Following a dispute over the release of 1989, she had decided to limit her music only to paying listeners because streaming services like Spotify didn’t reward artists in a fair manner.

“I'm not willing to contribute my life's work to an experiment that I don't feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music."
Fans had to resort to purchasing her albums or worse, downloading her songs illegally to sing along to "Shake It Off".
After a three-year boycott, she just made her entire music catalogue available on all music streaming services again on Thursday night.
Swift management team also confirmed the news on Twitter, saying that it is a move to celebrate the latest success of her 1989 album.
You can now find her albums on Spotify, Google Play and Amazon Music and embrace the Swiftie in you all day long!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ pic.twitter.com/kcpY03qHLp— Taylor Nation (@taylornation13) June 8, 2017
However, we’re pretty sure Swift and her management team didn’t return to Spotify just to thank her fans.
The landscape of the music industry has changed so much in the three years she had abandoned the service. Spotify’s users have surged tremendously, with over 50 million paying subscribers as of March.
In fact, Bloomberg reported that paid streaming services now contribute the most proportion to music sales in the US. In April, Spotify also changed its policy which paved the way for artists to restrict new releases only to paying subscribers.
Who knows? Maybe there’s a new Taylor Swift album brewing as we speak. But for now, let’s just enjoy some of the old Swift hits we’ve been missing.
