Disney fans, if you grew up watching plenty of Disney TV shows, we’re pretty sure you’re familiar with the show ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’.

The show, featuring Selena Gomez, is now getting a local adaptation, and it's called ‘Wizards of Warna Walk’.

‘Wizards of Warna Walk’ follows the adventures of the D’Cruz family, who are of Baba Nyonya heritage.

The family runs a kopitiam called Little Nyonyum in Kuala Lumpur, and juggles life as humans with magical abilities while trying to appear normal.

Meet the D'Cruz family.
The family consists of Norman D’Cruz (Afdlin Shauki), Jasmin D’Cruz (Carmen Soo), Alissa D’Cruz (Mia Sara), Aiden D’Cruz (Idan Aeden), and Amelia D’Cruz (Emma Sofea).

Carmen Soo, who also stars in the hit blockbuster ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, said: “As Disney Channel Southeast Asia’s first every locally scripted show, I am proud that Malaysia is the first country to be picked to produce this and very proud to have the opportunity to be a part of this project.”

Comedian Afdlin Shauki also couldn’t contain his excitement when he found out that he was offered the part.

“I’m already 48-years-old, and to be able to star in a Disney production even at this age is a dream come true for me,” Afdlin told Rojak Daily.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that Mia Sara, who plays Afdlin’s daughter on-screen, is also her actual daughter in real-life.

The show will also feature dialogues in Bahasa Malaysia and even the usage of our traditional pantun!

‘Wizards of Warna Walk’ will premiere on Disney Channel (Astro CH 615) on Friday, 30 August, 1.00pm and will also be available on Astro GO and On Demand.
