The normal way to enjoy durian is simple - a cleaver and your desired durian on top of old newspaper sheets just like the good old days. But what if there’s an entirely different approach to enjoying such a treat?

Introducing Duke Fine Durian, a cafe that serves a wide variety of durian-based products made from artisanally grown durians.

Located right in front of Fahrenheit 88 across Pavillion, Duke Fine Durian is the latest addition to the mall’s culinary attractions joining the likes of Al-Amar Express and Grand Harbour Restaurant.

The cafe, which just opened its doors to the public last week, received a warm welcome from durian fans who were eager to try their mouth-watering innovative dishes. As a durian-lover myself, I had to give these dishes a try for myself.

Duke Fine Durian served me a plate containing their finest dishes: the D197 with Gold Flakes, D101 with Cheese and Green Dragon with Matcha paired with a cool glass of freshly-made iced matcha.

The D197 or popularly known as the Musang King, is simply the creme of the crop. The soft texture of its exterior compliments the custardy taste of the fruit sprinkled with a dash of gold flakes that elevated the experience altogether.

However, the D101 with Cheese caught me off guard. As someone who loves cheese to death but dislikes when it’s applied to random dishes for creative purposes, I never thought I’d like a bite of cheese on my durian. The chalky flavour of the cheese gels well with the softness of the D101 - which made it a personal favourite of mine among the three.

The cafe also serves other durian-based products including cakes, bread, mochis, soft serve and more.

Reading this may not convince you that cheese might just belong on top of durian; so you have to give it a try yourself.

Duke Fine Durian is open to the public from 10 am to 10 pm everyday at Fahrenheit 88, Bukit Bintang.
