It has been 18 years since we were first introduced to the wonderful world of ‘Lord of the Rings’ (LOTR).

Hobbits, elves, wizards, walking trees, a weird-looking creature named Gollum, and one ring “that ruled them all” took all of us on an adventure around Middle Earth, spanning three movies and also a ‘Hobbit’ prequel trilogy.

And if you’re still the same LOTR geek you were 18 years ago and have been secretly hoping that they’ll somehow return in some way, we’ve got great news for you – a ‘Lord of the Rings’ TV series is happening soon!

The series will premiere on Amazon Prime and according to reports, it may possibly be aired as early as this year!

Not much is known about the premise of the new series but it will be set in the Second Age, according to the show’s official Twitter account.

The Second Age is also known as “The Age of Númenor.” Entertainment Weekly explains that “Númenor is considered a mythic lost city of men in the world of Middle-earth, one established on an island in the Great Sea that had been destroyed for thousands of years by the time of Frodo and Aragorn.”

“In the Second Age, according to Tolkien lore, it was said that the island was brought up from the ocean as a gift to men by the Valar (the gods of Middle-earth). The kingdom would later fall after they defy the laws of the deities.”

Who else had a crush on Aragon when the movie first came out?
There are also rumours flying around that the show will focus on a young Aragon. But if it does happen, will Viggo Moretenson return?

Well given his age, it’s unlikely but you’ll never know, since they’re keeping a tight lip on the casting.

But one thing’s confirmed – there will be a whopping five seasons of the show. So, you can binge-watch all you want soon.
