We are drawing close to Malaysia’s 60th Merdeka celebration and there is a brand new anthem that we can all sing along to.

Three popular local artists – legendary Datuk David Arumugam from the Alleycats, controversial singer-rapper Namewee and rookie singer Aniq – have released a music video to commemorate Malaysia’s independence.

You can probably guess what the song is about just by the name of the single: "Ali, Ah Kao dan Muthu". Composed by Namewee, it speaks of true unity and friendship that go beyond race, religion and culture.

In the music video, the story follows three young boys born on Merdeka Day 60 years ago who grew to become a band of brothers over the years.

The clip also includes footage of moments that made history in our country, like Tunku Abdul Rahman’s Merdeka cheer, the production of Proton Saga, Malaysia’s Thomas Cup win, the construction of the KL Tower, and more.

Namewee said in the making of the music video that he decided on "Ali, Ah Kao and Muthu" because these were three names often seen in our Malaysian school textbooks.

This song is definitely one that every Malaysian can resonate with. So if you need a little reminder amidst the inter-race or religion disputes we're constantly bombarded with lately, give "Ali, Ah Kao and Muthu" a listen, maybe you'll feel a little different this Merdeka.
