Remember the white flag movement that was launched earlier this year to aid income families signal distress whenever they are in need of essential supplies?

While the initiative was a good move, it sadly waned in momentum despite having a proper website called KitaJaga.co, created by local developer Reza Razali, to identify households that needed their assistance.

According to a report in Malay Mail, Reza said the site had 29,195 people who registered to donate but only 3,990 followed through.

“Many donors dropped off as they cited health and safety concerns in having to manage the deliveries,” he said.

Making donating easier

Not wanting to let go of the idea, Reza wanted to make things more convenient and safe for those who are willing to help via the launching of the Purple Flag campaign.

The Purple Flag campaign works exactly like the White Flag Movement, with the exception that the purple flags will be raised outside the homes of willing and able donors.

This time around, the campaign also has its own pick-up and delivery service for the donation of essential goods.

In fact, Reza said Purple flag location pins have also been included into the KitaJaga.co tracker.

“In that case, we can effectively bridge the gap between the donors and recipients," Reza said.

He hoped that with the improvement to the campaign, people who dropped off from the campaign before this will return and make use of the new services.

He said that since the Purple Flag campaign launched in September 2021, 53 needy recipients were assisted with essential items.

More donors needed

More donors needed
Notably, he said the white flag to purple flag ratio is currently 17:1, which means that more donors are needed to provide help.

To help, all you need to do is to register at KitaJaga.co, and pin a purple flag on your location. You’ll be aided to complete the rest of the steps.
