However, pink dolphins do exist and a lucky few in Vietnam managed to get a glimpse of the majestic creature recently.
Pink, it was love at first sight
A pink dolphin has been spotted in the waters of Vietnam, particularly at the Do Son beach in Hai Phong City.
A lucky beach-goer even managed to capture the sighthing on camera.
The video, almost one-and-a-half-minute long, shows the rare dolphin happily frolicking in the water while maintaining a safe distance from the person who was holding the camera.
In fact, the dolphin, as if knowing that he's being filmed, decided to put on a show by making several leaps into the air.

The species reportedly is believed to be an Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin.
According to local Vietnamese website VnExpress, although this isn't the first time a pink dolphin was spotted in Do Son beach, the locals believe that sightings of a pink dolphin is a good omen.
As such, fishermen in the area believe that they will bring in big catches and have a good shrimp and fish harvesting season.
Why are some dolphins pink?
Although we wouldn't mind having some pink dolphins around, the colour unfortunately will not last.BBC reported that the particular dolphin gets its pink hue when it's younger, and it changes colours as they grow.
The one spotted in Vietnam could very well be in its mid-stage development, and it is expected to turn white upon reaching maturity.
