Public toilets are generally known for being dirty and revolting.

To change this perspective, an 84-year-old man from Kota Bharu, Kelantan decided to build a lavish public toilet, one that you couldn’t even imagine having at home.

Gold standard

For starters, the public toilet is gold-themed.

To top it off, it has alson been furnished with an air-conditioner, a television, a water heater and a dressing table. There's even a hot water dispenser for those who wants to make a cup of coffee.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, the extravagant toilet cost Datuk Dr Ahmad Omar some RM10,000 to build.

With that kind of high-class amenities, you would expect Ahmad to charge the public for using the toilet. However, Ahmad, who owns a petrol station next door, doesn't charge a single cent for the usage.

The toilet is located in the town of Melor and anyone passing through the town can use the water heater to shower and freshen up, Ahmad told Sinar Harian.

Not only that, people who use the toilet will also get a discount on items purchased at shops near his petrol station.

“We are taught to think that public toilets are dirty and not well maintained and I hope to change that misconception in time.

“What I’ve done is give users comfort. Even though it’s strange, the difference will delight people,” he was quoted as saying.

Ahmad hopes that the lavish loo will change people’s perceptions about public toilets and will raise awareness to keep such facilities clean.

Thank you, Datuk Dr Ahmad Omar, for giving the people a comfortable place to freshen up.
