Award-winning author of 'The Garden of Evening Mists', Tan Twan Eng, is in town and will be throwing a book-signing session.

The Malaysian author, who is now based in Cape Town, South Africa, is here to promote his book and the movie of the same title releasing on 16 January.

Meet and greet

The man behind the award-winning book.
If you love his books or your new year's resolution is to read more books, you'd want to take this opportunity to meet the man behind the compelling stories.

'The Garden of Evening Mists', Tan's second novel, has won numerous prestigious book awards such as the Man Asian Literary Awards and Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction. It was also shortlisted for the Man Bookers Prize and International Dublin Literary Award.

The book is set mostly in post-Japanese Occupation Malaya and a couple of decades after, with some flashbacks to the Occupation itself.

Despite the timeline going back and forth, the book is not difficult to follow, probably due to the meticulous way it was written.

It is a story about memories, the effects of war, forgiveness and more.
