Here's The Reason Why Bangladeshi Men Are Dyeing Their Beards Orange
If you happen to visit Bangladesh, don’t be surprised to see men with brightly-coloured beards in vivid shades of tangerine walking around the streets of Dhaka.
It has nothing to do with religion whatsover; it is actually the latest beauty trend to take over Bangladesh.
According to news agency AFP, the trend was reportedly started by older men who want to take years off their faces by dyeing their graying beards with henna, a type of dye made out of plants.
In fact, the trend has become so popular that it’s reportedly impossible to walk down a street in Bangladesh without spotting an orange beard that sometimes extends to moustaches or even on heads.
“Putting henna on has become a fashion choice in recent years for elder men.
“The powder is easily found in neighbourhood stores and easy to put on,” head fashion journalist at Canvas magazine, Didarul Dipu, told the news agency.
50 shades of orange. The report also said that the trend of dyeing hair orange goes beyond hanging on to youth.
Experts believed that top imams also reportedly use henna colour powder to prove their Muslim credentials as some religious texts say the Prophet Mohammed dyed his hair.
Dhaka University sociology professor Monirul Islam Khan said the growing number of henna beards “is a sign of increasing Muslim fervour in Bangladeshi society.”
Do you think this trend will catch up in other countries soon?
