We've seen it being put to good use, especially during this pandemic, but we've also seen how social media has been used for nothing good.
Sadly, this story is a case about the latter.
Unnecessary attention?
A Malaysian influencer has been at the receiving end of netizens' ire after he uploaded a video of his friend’s funeral. In the 3-minute, 35-second video uploaded onto his social media page, Hafiz Mahamad was seen arriving at the airport, going to the morgue to pick up his friend's remains, driving a funeral van and ended with him burying the body.
Throughout the video, the camera mostly focused on Hafiz's uncontrollable emotions.
Hafiz described, in the post, his special friendship with his friend named Loh, and how he's having a difficult time accepting his death.
Loh reportedly suffered a stroke back in September but passed away on 22 December.
While netizens felt sorry for Hafiz's loss, many claimed that Hafiz was being insincere and insensitive to his friend’s death because he posted it online to his followers.
only hafiz mahamad can make other people’s death ALL ABOUT HIMSELF lmao talk about the disrespect, insensitive and so out of place?!!!

READ THE ROOM, narcissist.
If i were Hafiz Mahamad, i would compile every vid/photo i had with my friend rather than filming tenung jenazah hm. Tht would be enough i guess :/

after watching hafiz mahamad's ig stories, can't help but feel a certain way ? i know he has good intentions but if i die, i hope my friends dont document the whole process :/

Fck hafiz mahamad. So insensitive and over the line. Too many red flags in that igtv. Your friend just passed and you're documenting his funeral?? Did anyone in your circle tell you anything about this, weh find new friends pls. His actions can never be justifiable for me

Personally, i looked upon hafiz mahamad’s vid and came out w two point of views. Maybe mmg niat dia baik nak record the moment and to pay the last salutation to his friend, but part last sekali siap tunjuk van jenazah tu dia sponsored, I’m bit shocked. Sikit sikit dah la, ?

i mean, i understand hafizmahamad's sadness but... recording the whole stuff is just extremely inappropriate ? i know u are sad but did u ask people "aku nak pergi ziarah mayat ni tolong record jap" like that ?

If I die, I hope no one records a whole video like what was the reason?! ? You have enough time with me to record our moment while I am still breathing.

Thanks God none of my friends love spotlight as much as hafiz mahamad does ???
Your friend passed away and you make a documentary-like video out of it (?). Something about Hafiz Mahamad's stories video just doesn't sit right with me at all

Despite the online criticism, there are those who feel that Hafiz’s intention was genuine.
While we think that Hafiz genuinely wanted to pay tribute to his fallen friend, we felt that there's always a better way to honour a friend.
What do you guys think about this issue? Was it necessary for him to document his friend's funeral?
