So many Malaysians dreaded being separated from their loved ones when the MCO was put in place.

For many Malaysians living in Johor Bahru, reuniting with family members working in Singapore is still something that they're forced to deal with.

In case you don't know, thousands of Malaysians actually stay in Johor Bahru and work in Singapore because the exchange rate is just so much better there.



Most who have jobs in Singapore, however, have opted to just stay put on the island as borders have been closed due to spiking COVID-19 numbers.

These Malaysians are usually the main providers for their families so even when borders are temporarily opened, they prefer to refrain from coming home in case they get stuck and eventually end up losing their jobs due to border closures.

One such person in this situation is Mohd Izwan Sarip who works in Singapore but has family living in Johor Bahru as reported by " target="_blank">Mothership Singapore.

A touching meet

Missing them very much, Mohd Izwan decided to go out of his way to "see" them.

Posting about their "meet" on social media, Mohd Izwan explained how he waited on the banks of the Woodlands Waterfront Park Jetty in Singapore facing Johor just to catch a glimpse of his family on the other side.

While standing there, Mohd Izwan video called his wife and his two young children.



In a video of the "meet" which was posted on social media, Izwan was heard saying this:

“Where are you?” he asked in Malay.

“I’m here, wearing a black and white shirt. Can you see me?” replied a woman.









In a second clip, Izwan's children can be heard laughing and excitedly saying "Hi, papa!".

It was a brief conversation but many netizens were touched by the clips.

We were touched too. Our thoughts are really with all these separated families.

May they have the strength to push through this difficult period and hopefully the governments from Malaysia and Singapore can find a proper solution which will allow them to reunite - with peace of mind - with their families soon.
