That was exactly what happened to an Indian man who was declared dead in a road accident only to be found alive by his relatives despite a night in the freezer of a hospital morgue.

Pronounced dead but he wasn't

According to a report by News Straits Times quoting a report by AFP, Srikesh Kumar was hit by a motorbike near New Delhi and was in a critical condition.

He was then rushed to a clinic and transported to a private medical facility where he was declared dead on arrival.

Srikesh’s ‘body’ was later sent to a government hospital for post-mortem.

"The emergency medical officer examined him. He did not find any signs of life and hence declared him dead," the hospital's medical superintendent Rajendra Kumar told AFP.

The doctor said police were informed of the incident and the body was placed in the morgue freezer until his family arrived six hours later.

"When a police team and his family came over to initiate the paperwork for the autopsy, he was found alive," he was quoted as saying.

Currently, Srikesh is in a coma.

"This is nothing short of a miracle," said Rajendra.

An investigation is being conducted to check how the doctors mistakenly declared Srikesh dead.
