Meet The Guy Who Is Going To Cycle – Yes, Cycle – Around The World In 80 Days
Irishman Mark Beaumont is going to cycle the world in 80 days.
He has been planning this with his team for the past three years. He first set the record of cycling around the world, which he did in 194 days, back in 2004. Now he wants to circumnavigate the globe in less than half that time in an event called the Artemis World Cycle.

How will he do it?
Unlike his first journey around the world, which was done guerilla style with no support, this journey of 80 days will be backed by a team. Still, he will need to cycle 386 km a day, 16 hours on the bike. He will be feeding on the bike (8,000 calories and 8-10 litres of water a day) and each day will begin at 4am for four, four-hour sets before taking a 30 minute break, and at the end of the 16 hours, he sleeps. What route will he take?

Why is he doing this?!
The Scottish adventurer is raising funds for Orkidstudio, which works to benefit communities worldwide through innovative architecture and construction. The journey will also be tracked through Twinkl, a global educational platform for primary schools. Personally, he wants people to "... take on what they are capable of, for young people in particular to stop and to think 'what's my 80 days'?"As a warm up to the Artemis World Cycle, he will first cycle around the coastline of Britian - a 5,633km journey that will take him 15 days.
