If you're thinking of linking your credit card to your kid’s accounts, think twice.

A Singaporean dad learnt this the hard way.

Credit card linked to daughter's phone

According to a report in The Straits Times, Lim Cheng Mong was shocked to discover that his credit card was charged S$20,000 (RM61,766) for his 18-year-old daughter’s in-game purchases.

He got to know from his bank that he had missed the huge overdue payments.

“Initially, I thought I was scammed.

“But then the credit card company said that these were legitimate transactions and there was nothing the company could do,” he was quoted as saying in the report.

He explained that he had linked his credit card to his daughter’s Grab account to pay for her transportation expenses.

His daughter had actually linked her Grab e-wallet to a popular game called 'Genshin Impact' and spent the large sum of money during a period of six-weeks to shop for in-game merchandise to upgrade her avatar.

“I told her off that the money she used was a lot of money — worth one year of school fees if she studied overseas.

“A huge sum was spent in the blink of an eye,” said Lim.

Pity the father!
