A South Korean man recently bought a secondhand fridge online just to store his kimchi.

After receiving and cleaning it, he was shocked to discover wads of cash amounting to KRW10 million (around RM394,000) taped underneath the fridge.

According to a report by Mashable SEA, quoting MBC News, all the cash was wrapped in plastic and neatly taped underneath the fridge.

The man did the rightful thing upon discovering the cash: yes, he lodged a police report.

Finders keepers! Sort of...

The local police handling the case had said that such cases were rare.

Police are currently trying to trace the seller of the fridge and those who delivered it.

Under South Korea’s Lost and Found Act, finders are keepers if the owner could not be traced. In this case, though, the man would have to pay 22 percent in tax. Still, not bad.

However, if the rightful owner is found, the man will still be rewarded a compensation between five to 20 percent of the total value. If the cash involved crime, it will be surrendered to the state.

Interestingly, the report added that keeping cash in kimchi fridges is normal among wealthy people as it has the perfect temperature and humidity levels.

How peculiar!
