The cover photo we’ve chosen shows the condition of an interior road in Kota Marudu that connects villagers to SK Magandai, a school located 50km from the centre of town.

The school has been featured countless times in the news, most famously, for its one of the girls in the school that travelled 60km every day over land and water to get to school–at age six!

While the cover photo shows the condition of the roads in 2021, we’ve recently found photos shared by the teachers and community who live there that show that while there have been improvements, travelling to school can still be difficult.

For students and teachers alike, crossing some roads is still a problem as this photo from Majangkin Jaralin posted in January 2022 reveals:

This is only one visible example of one remote school in Sabah but it’s a reality of many more Malaysians living in the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak.

To alleviate the problem, Astro Kasih is once again stepping in for the communities in Sabah and Sarawak, this time by organising a Walk for Education event: a 5km walk to raise money for school supplies, uniforms, shoes, and books.

Besides raising money, the walk also serves to raise awareness to the journey that students and teachers must make and all proceeds will go to SK Magandai and SK Malinsau in Sabah; SK Sg Paku in Sarawak, and Starfish Malaysia Foundation hostels in East Malaysia.

The event promises a fun-filled day for the whole family. With games, activities, mini concerts, and photography sessions with lovable mascots like BoBoiBoy, Mechamato, Ben10, and more.
