TLDR

  • The analysis using the Golden Ratio identified Argentina’s Rodrigo De Paul as the most handsome player at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
  • The list of the 10 most attractive players includes Son Heung-min, Mohamed Salah, and Kai Havertz, who are known for both their talent and their looks.
  • Players from various countries such as Scotland, the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, and Egypt were also featured in the ranking based on this scientific study.

Every four years, the FIFA World Cup creates new heroes, unforgettable moments, and of course, a few unexpected celebrity crushes. Social media is often flooded with fans admiring players’ performances, and sometimes their appearances, turning some footballers into global heartthrobs overnight.

While beauty is ultimately subjective and everyone has their own preferences, studies on facial proportions and symmetry have long been used to analyse conventional standards of attractiveness.

That is exactly what’s being used in a recent analysis to determine which FIFA World Cup footballers are considered the most attractive. The research uses the Golden Ratio, a mathematical equation devised by the ancient Greeks in an attempt to measure beauty.

In this study, experts took a list of the 150 most-Googled footballers competing at the World Cup and fed it into the Golden Face Ratio tool. Here are 10 of the most attractive FIFA World Cup players, according to science.

10. Scott McTominay (Scotland)

Scottish professional footballer Scott Francis McTominay was ranked 10th among the most attractive FIFA World Cup players in the analysis.

Born on 8 December 1996, McTominay made his senior debut for Manchester United in 2017 after graduating from the club’s youth academy. He went on to make more than 250 appearances, winning the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. In 2024, he signed for Serie A club Napoli and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player during his debut season.

9. Wout Weghorst (Netherlands)

Wout Weghorst may not fit the typical ‘pretty boy’ footballer stereotype, but his rugged style and towering height give the Dutch forward an appeal that’s hard to ignore.

Playing as a striker for Eredivisie club Ajax and the Netherlands national team, Weghorst has represented his country at UEFA Euro 2020 and 2024, as well as the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he scored twice in the quarter-final against Argentina.

Weghorst is also known for his incredible work ethic. During his time with Heracles, his gym sessions were reportedly so intense that teammates joked he might be overdoing it.

8. Jonathan Tah (Germany)

Jonathan Tah proves that defenders can steal the spotlight too. Born on 11 February 1996, Tah has an Ivorian father and a German mother and grew up in Hamburg’s Altona district.

In 2015, he was named Germany’s best under-19 player and made his senior national team debut in early 2016. Although he was part of the Euro 2016 squad, he didn’t feature in any matches. Years later, he re-established himself and was included in Germany’s squad for UEFA Euro 2024, where he has since become a key defensive figure.

7. Nick Woltemade (Germany)

Born on 8 July 1992, he is widely recognised for his skill and is among the top Asian goalscorers in both Premier League and UEFA Champions League history. He is also regarded as one of the greatest Asian players of all time.

Son holds the record for most appearances for South Korea and has represented the country in four World Cups, including this year’s edition.

He started playing football at the age of four and gained attention after his father uploaded videos of his goals on YouTube. He later joined Real Madrid’s youth setup at a young age.

At this year’s FIFA World Cup, Endrick was one of the youngest players in the tournament, representing Brazil at just 19.

4. Mohamed Salah (Egypt)

One of the most recognisable figures in football, Mohamed Salah ranked fourth among the most attractive players at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation, Salah plays as a right winger and captains the Egypt national team.

Nicknamed the “Egyptian King,” Salah is adored by fans, so much so that during Egypt’s 2018 presidential election, over a million ballots were reportedly spoiled with his name written in place of official candidates.

Previously with Chelsea, Noni Madueke transferred to Arsenal in July 2025. The 24-year-old winger was born in London to Nigerian parents.

2. Kai Havertz (Germany)

Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz ranks as the second most attractive FIFA World Cup player.

The 27-year-old made his senior debut for Bayer Leverkusen before moving to top European clubs. In a 2026 World Cup match against Curaçao, Havertz scored two goals in Germany’s dominant performance.

Off the pitch, Havertz enjoys playing the piano, gaming, and spending time with animals. Growing up, he had several pets, including dogs, cats, and even a horse. His favourite animals, however, are donkeys, a love that began when he received a stuffed donkey as a child.

Rodrigo De Paul tops the list as the most attractive FIFA World Cup player, according to the analysis.

Born on 24 May 1994, the Argentine midfielder currently plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. Since making his international debut in 2018, he has helped Argentina win multiple trophies, including the Copa América (2021, 2024) and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

De Paul is also known for his close friendship with Lionel Messi. Their bond reportedly began after De Paul accidentally took Messi’s assigned seat on the team bus during a training camp. Since then, the two have been inseparable, earning De Paul the nickname “Messi’s bodyguard” for his protective presence on the pitch.
