In the early morning of October 2, a total of 12 Malaysians on board five vessels of a humanitarian mission to Gaza were detained by Israeli forces in Gaza waters.
For context, the vessels were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), a non-violent humanitarian mission delivering much-needed relief to Palestinians trapped in the Gaza warzone. In addition to Malaysia, participants in the GSF included individuals from 44 other countries.

In a post on Instagram, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim strongly condemned the actions of Israeli forces:
“I condemn in the strongest terms Israel's interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla. These vessels carried unarmed civilians and life-saving humanitarian supplies for Gaza, yet they were met with intimidation and coercion.
"By blocking a humanitarian mission, Israel has shown utter contempt not only for the rights of the Palestinian people but also for the conscience of the world,” he added.
Anwar also stated that Malaysia will ensure Israel is held accountable, especially in matters concerning its detained citizens.
In a separate post, he urged Israeli forces to release the Malaysians and other detained activists.
