If you're one of the ones that assume COVID-19 is not going to harm you, well, you just never know.
Take it from this family from Labis.
A total of 16 people in the family were tested positive from COVID-19 and one died from the virus recently.
Virus spread during family meet
According to a report by The Star, they were all found positive after attending a family gathering in the Klang Valley.The family is said to be living under one roof in Labis and had visited relatives residing in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor between 17 December and 25 December.
The family member that contracted and died from COVID-19 was aged 60.
“Contact tracing and follow ups conducted by the Health Ministry found that 16 of the senior citizen’s family members had COVID-19.
“They have been quarantined while some were warded at the hospital for necessary treatments, ” said a source from the health ministry as stated in the report.
COVID-19 is in the community
This case is a reminder of what Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said - that COVID-19 is already in the community.Just yesterday alone (6 January), there were 2,593 new COVID-19 cases.
Clusters are aplenty as well.
Selangor has 605 clusters, Johor has 388 cluster, Sabah has 6, KL has 42, Negeri Sembilan has 78, Penang has 44, Kelantan has 17, Kedah has 19, Perak has 18, Labuan has 9, Melaka and Pahang have 2 clusters each, Terengganu, Putrajaya and Sarawak all have one cluster each.
In short, things are not looking good.
How COVID-19 spreads
Just a reminder to everyone, COVID-19 which is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus spreads when an infected person comes in close contact with another.According to information provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the virus spreads from the infected person's mouth or nose through liquid particles which are released when a sick person coughs, sneees, speaks, sings or even breathes heavily.
A healthy person can catch COVID-19 when the virus gets into their mouth, nose or eyes.
WHO also states that the virus can spread after an infected person sneezes or coughs or touches surfaces or objects such as handles, doorknobs, buttons etc.
Infection occurs when a healthy person touches these areas and then touches their eyes, noses or mouths.
It's that easy!
So, remember you guys. Keep washing or sanitising your hands and stay away from high-risk areas as much as you can.
