25-Year-Old Half-Malaysian Woman From Kedah Becomes A Mayor In California
It doesn't matter where you're from, you'll be rewarded if you work hard enough.
Take this half-Malaysian woman as an example.

Creating history

Yow and her cute little son. Jocelyn Yow has made history by becoming by becoming the youngest woman of colour to become a mayor in California.
According to a report by Free Malaysia Today, the 25-year-old was born to a Malaysian father and a Vietnamese mother.
Yow's father went to the US in the 1980s to pursue his studies, while her mother was from a refugee family who moved to the US in the 1980s.
The family then moved back to Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia in 1996 after her paternal grandfather was diagnosed with cancer.
“I ended up spending over 10 years there, allowing me to learn more about our family history, heritage and culture.
“I am honoured to be my parents’ daughter, and I am proud to be a Malaysian-Vietnamese-Chinese-American,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Yow was first elected to the Eastvale City Council in 2018 and also served as pro-tem mayor.
She was then elected as mayor in the US elections in November.
The mother of one said her first agenda as a mayor is to create the city’s first library and to increase representation for people of colour in the city.
