51-Year-Old Man Travels from China to Johor for Love Only to Realise His ‘Girlfriend’ Doesn’t Exist
Have you ever used dating apps or online sites to search for love? Or given up on finding someone in your own country so you look overseas? Be careful if you choose to do so. As reported by China Press, a man from China’s search for love proved to be a futile attempt as he had been hoodwinked.
51-year-old Yang Zhengbing borrowed money from his mother (we’re totally judging the fact that a middle-aged man has to borrow money from his mum) to travel from Chongqing, China to Labis, Johor which is approximately 4,242 km away. This was so that he could finally meet his ‘Qiqi’ his 28-year-old girlfriend.
However, on 21 August, when he arrived in the town which is located 150km north of Johor Bahru, his lady love was nowhere to be found. He purportedly had a relationship with her for the past year. Upon realizing that he was in Labis, ‘Qiqi’ also proceeded to block him on WeChat.

In a final attempt to find his sweetheart, Yang showed locals the footage of their video chats. The locals kindly pointed him to a house where a family with the surname Zhang resided. Unfortunately, the family claimed that their photos had been misused by the impersonator. It is unclear whether ‘Qiqi’ had extorted any money from Yang.
The heartbroken Yang told local reporters that he would be flying back to China and would move on with his life. Interestingly, he said that he had fallen in love with Labis and would return to set up a restaurant there one day. The agricultural town has a population of approximately 36,063 and is one of the main rubber producers in Johor. Among the attractions, there is the Taka Melor waterfall.
Poor Yang! We hope that he finds love one day!
