After Postponing The Cannes Film Festival, Organiser Opens Doors To The Homeless Instead
The COVID-19 outbreak has created havoc across the world with major events seeing a cancellation or postponement.
One such event is the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
Venue is opened for the homeless
According to a report in Reuters, the film festival that's held annually in the palm-fringed French Riviera was due to take place from 12 to 23 May, but the organisers have decided to postpone the event to late June.Instead of just shutting down the entire venue, the oraganisers have decided to turn it into a temporary shelter for the town's homeless people who have had limitations with the lockdown in Paris.
"We have between 50 and 70 people here every night," Dominique Aude-Lasset, an official at Cannes Town Hall, told the news agency.
Dominique said that there will be officials stationed outside to take temperature readings of the homeless before they're allowed inside.
The venue reportedly has an eating area, a shower block and communal space with television and games. There's also a low-ceiling room with camp-beds set up in three long lines for them to get some shut-eye.
On top of that, the organisers also put up four kennels to house their pets because they know that dogs are "precious for people living on the streets".
This is an unbelievable gesture, you guys! Thank you for taking care of the homeless.
