AirAsia Controversies Continue To Pile Up As Netizens Grow Increasingly Frustrated
The low budget airline is no stranger to controversies with their previous Airbus-AirAsia scandal and their CEO Tony Fernandez being accused of being tone deaf for sharing pictures of his brand new Tesla car in the midst of the pandemic.
In fact, a tweet they posted on their official account very recently on 11 June went viral all for the wrong reasons. What started off as a well-meaning tweet asking users ‘What advice will you give a first-time flyer?’ quickly amassed sarcastic comments like this, rather than actual information:
To ones that raised serious concerns like this where apparently individuals who are unable to ascend and descend steps independently will be charged RM63.60 :Dont fly with airasia https://t.co/G3ZKvnpVHX— Rozee Tiger (@OwToTheZie) June 11, 2022
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, fly @airasia.
Yes, they have a disability tax and enshrine disability discrimination in actual monetary policy.
May this airline die. https://t.co/Yhxl6JC833— Rafie ?️? (@rafieedruce) June 12, 2022
Now AirAsia is being caught up in controversy again in this post from a disgruntled customer that went viral on Facebook:
In his post, the user complained that despite booking his tickets a month in advance for 18 June, he received an email stating that the time of his flight was rescheduled from 11.35 a.m. to 5.00p.m. Those who are travelers will only know too well the frustrations of receiving notifications such as this as they can mess up our whole travel plans.
The strange thing was, according to him, upon checking their website, the flight in question was not actually cancelled altogether but was still available. However, it was now double the initial price that he had forked out should he want to stick to the same flight.
This is ironic considering that AirAsia has been awarded the award of being ‘World's Leading Low-Cost Airline for the ninth year in a row’.
He went on to say: “Do you think we the consumers are that stupid that we cannot see you changed that time to a later time as that is a good/peak time, and your bookings were full. By moving my flight now you can again sell that time at double the price?????”.
He went on to say that the airline has been cheating its customers and that he would be considering other airlines moving on.
Hmm, we don’t know how true it is but if it’s true, we hope that the authorities will look into it. With the stress of flights constantly being rescheduled, and rising petrol prices, we all ‘dayung sampan’ to our next holiday destination only lah.
