They came up with a brilliant idea to combine ash (from the Taal volcano), sand, cement and discarded plastic to make cheap yet hardy bricks.

Making something out of nothing
“Instead of just piling up the ashfall somewhere, we are able to turn it into something useful. And it includes plastics, too,” said city environmental officer Rodelio Lee, as reported by AFP.The Taal volcano erupted earlier this month leaving nearby Binan city coated in grey ash.
The mix of unwanted ash and other materials creates approximately 5,000 bricks per day for local building projects.
